Scholarship International Summer Study Tour to Colombia 2023 Applications

I am delighted to announce that the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences is offering a limited number of bursaries for year one and year two undergraduate students and postgraduate students who wish to participate in a three-week* summer school in Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia. This is a chance for students from every subject area in CBASS to gain international experience, to study on the campus of one of Brunel’s overseas partners, to mix with students from around the world, and to immerse themselves in a new culture.
*Week 1 is an intense online language course that you will study from home. Week 2 and 3 will take place in Colombia.

Details of programme
*The CBASS Summer School in Colombia will run from 10th – 29th July 2023 . The first week will be an intense online language course from home. It will be followed by 2 weeks in Colombia with a series of lectures on Colombian history, politics, and culture and visits to museums, government agencies, and businesses and therefore subject to change.
A member of staff from Brunel will accompany the trip.
Costs
There will be up to 25 places available. To ensure that participation in the programme is as affordable as possible, successful applicants will receive a scholarship to cover the cost of tuition, accommodation, flights and most meals. Students will simply have to pay for leisure activities (above and beyond what has been built into the programme and any additional visa/ transit visa applications). We expect that flights will be booked by Brunel and you will travel as a group from a London airport.
Application Stage 1 – Attend information briefing, Thursday 9th March 2023 at 1pm in Lecture Centre Room 264 (LECT264)
Attend the Colombian briefing to hear more information about the trip and to gain an understanding of the expectations on you as a student. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Application Stage 2 – Submit your application - deadline

Application forms will be issued during the briefing on Thursday 9 March, 1-2pm LECT 264.
Places will be allocated on a competitive basis. To be eligible for a scholarship, undergraduate students must have a grade B average. All students must be an current registered student, studying at Brunel at the time of travel. Each candidate must be able to demonstrate ambassadorial commitment to your department, college, and Brunel, as well as evidence experience you have had that supports your ability to adapt to new circumstances and collaborate respectfully with the institution you will be visiting and the colleagues you will be travelling with. If you meet these requirements and would like to be considered for a place on the Summer School, you should prepare a 500-word essay detailing why you wish to study in Colombia, what you think you will gain from the experience and what you think you will bring to it. You should be thinking about how you can demonstrate commitment and evidence ambassadorial experience.
Application Stage 3 – Assessment Centre
If you are successful at Stage 2, you will be notified by email and you will be invited to attend an assessment centre on Monday 27 March 12-4pm on campus. Failure to attend this will result in your application being withdrawn, so it is advisable to block out the time in your diary now.
Your Commitment to the University
Successful applicants must attend all preparatory events. Failure to attend will result in your place being withdrawn. Successful applicants will be required to engage in a wide range of publicity and promotional activities on behalf of the University. Please note that this is a key requirement of the scheme and by accepting the award you will be entering into an agreement to undertake these activities.
Promotional activities are likely to include the following roles:
(i) Student Ambassador - As a student ambassador you will be expected to:
• Help to promote the University’s internationalization agenda
• Participate in activities organized by the Academic Partnerships Office
• Take part in photoshoots and filmed events organized by CBASS and/or the University
• Meet guests from overseas universities or embassies
• Fulfil other duties as and when required
(ii) Student Blogger
• Help promote the University’s internationalisation agenda
• Create and develop a blog which you will be expected to contribute to regularly in which you write about your experience of living and studying in Colombia
• Fulfil other duties as and when required.
